Domestic Violence Intervention Program Shelter
A safe haven offering critical support for survivors of domestic violence.
Axiom Consultants acted as the Owner’s Representative and overall Design Project Manager, while providing civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering services for the Terry Fortmann Emergency Shelter, a crucial facility for the Domestic Violence Intervention Program in Iowa City. Our team worked closely with the shelter staff, DVIP personnel, and our architectural partner, Streamline, to provide thoughtful and accessible design that would meet the significant challenges that a facility of this type requires.
Form and function were critical, and the team worked to ensure that as many of the needs were met as possible. The shelter, designed to offer 65 to 70 beds for individuals in emergency situations, includes five accessible rooms and elevators to ensure safety and accessibility for all residents.
This state-of-the-art shelter provides critical resources for survivors of domestic violence. Axiom’s engineering team collaborated closely with the DVIP to create a secure, welcoming space that supports the health and well-being of vulnerable individuals during their most challenging times.
