The Kretschmer Lofts project was a large-scale historic rehabilitation of the Kretschmer Building in Dubuque’s Millwork District. This beautiful transformation created 48 apartment units across three floors, featuring custom layouts that include mezzanines, a rooftop patio, a golf simulator, and spacious common areas. A key design feature is the central light well and atrium, bringing natural light into the heart of the building, while preserving its historic charm.

Axiom Consultants provided the structural engineering design package, which included the rehabilitation and integration of new structural steel elements. The design maintained the building’s historical integrity by exposing original structural components while introducing modern amenities. The project delivered a modern living environment in the historic Millwork District, utilizing over 31,200 square feet of space and seamlessly blending historical and contemporary elements.
