University of Iowa Biology Building East
Mechanical, electrical, and structural upgrades replaced aging HVAC systems and enhanced airflow, efficiency, and sustainability to support research and teaching.
Axiom Consultants provided mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering services for the Biology Building East greenhouse facility at the University of Iowa. The project was initiated to address aging HVAC
infrastructure and improve the environmental conditions necessary for research and teaching in the Department of Biology. Following a detailed air handling unit study, Axiom developed a replacement strategy that would modernize climate control systems within the greenhouse and support ongoing academic activities.
To implement the upgrade, Axiom designed and administered construction of the new air handling unit and completed structural modifications to accommodate a new ventilation louvre. These improvements significantly enhanced airflow, system efficiency, and overall functionality of the facility. The project ensures long-term sustainability and operational reliability, reinforcing the university’s commitment to high-quality scientific research and education. infrastructure and improve the environmental conditions
